When I launched SheFi in 2020, one comment hit me harder than the rest.

It wasn’t encouragement from a loved one or a fire-in-my-belly inner voice.

It was a stranger on the Internet:

"You’re only creating SheFi to boost your own brand."

I was stunned.

The idea of building a “personal brand” hadn’t even crossed my mind. I had maybe a few thousand incidental Twitter followers, but I wasn’t thinking about marketing myself. I was thinking about building something for others.

But that comment? It burrowed in.

Even though I believed wholeheartedly in SheFi’s mission, I decided to keep Maggie Love and SheFi brands as separate as possible. I didn’t want to be misunderstood. I didn’t want anyone to think I was chasing clout or virtue signaling.

So for two years, I kept my personal account quiet. Never retweeting or talking about SheFi. 

Then something shifted in me.

It was 2022, and I felt this quiet but steady voice rise up inside me.

A voice that said being visible, being bold, wasn’t ego.

It was purpose.

Wouldn’t more people believe in SheFi… if they saw how much I believed?

And here’s the truth:

I don’t just believe in SheFi.

I am SheFi.

So I stepped into the spotlight. I started owning our story, sharing my story, and championing and defending our mission. I claimed the role of SheFi’s steward and refused to shrink from it. I retweeted with pride. I showed up, boldly.

After that, everything started to grow.

My personal brand and SheFi became mutually reinforcing engines. We started landing bigger sponsors. More women joined. But people weren’t just going to discover SheFi. I had to tell them.

Looking back, I missed out on years of growth—both for myself and for SheFi—because I was afraid of being judged.

So here’s what I want to tell you now:

Build your personal brand.

Yes, people may judge you. They’ll question your motives, your authenticity, your stories.

Let them.

You know in your heart what you are doing. And their opinions? They’re not worth your silence.

No one else can tell your story except you. 

And while it felt like I started my brand-building journey a little late, the truth is: it’s never too late.

Even if you’re reading this and have been a quiet lurker in Web3 for years, know that you can start building your online voice at any time.

Because business ventures come and go, but your voice is forever.

So, where do you begin?

Share something. Anything. Post a video. A class takeaway. A note you scribbled. An insight you had. Show up with your thoughts, and then do it again tomorrow.

At first, it might feel awkward. Or even scary. But over time, it gets easier. The ideas come faster. The posts get stronger. Your voice gets louder.

And soon, something magical will happen:

You’ll feel empowered.

So learn from my mistakes. Don’t let one voice online stop you.

Instead, become your own strongest voice.

Your own biggest believer.

Because when you believe in yourself, your community will believe in you, too.
