My Big Decision.

Building Community, SheFi Summit Asia Tour, SheFi Wins

In the early years of SheFi, I was faced with a big decision:

  1. Devote myself solely to the end product—a course to educate women on Web3, or:

  2. Find the time to grow and nurture a community alongside it

I had doubts because I had never grown a community before.

But then, one small NYC meetup with 8 members in spring 2021 changed everything. As we sat together at our first in person gathering, I witnessed the direct impact SheFi had on this small, happy, energized group of women that wasn’t possible from our virtual classes.

They shared their personal stories, their generosity, and their inspirations with each other. The energy was warm, welcoming, and incredibly powerful.

One woman addressed the group: “SheFi helped me go from publishing to Web3—I finally made enough money to divorce my husband and find healthcare for my special needs child. For the first time in my life, I felt like I could reinvent myself—and I’m in my 40’s.”

At that moment, I teared up: SheFi was never just a course.

SheFi goes far beyond Web3 education. We foster reinvention, embrace possibility, and empower women and non-binary folks.

Our community is essential to reinforcing and cultivating collective inspiration.

The most rewarding part for me is seeing the kindness shared by those initial 8 women in 2021 scaling to thousands in 2024. This is beautifully obvious in three interactions recently documented by members:

Sabrina tweeted the other day that at one of the ETHCC parties, she was helping herself to some strawberries at the chocolate fountain when she noticed two women watching her.

And laughing.

A bit panicked and self-conscious, she decided to approach them and ask, “Are you laughing at me?”

The ladies smiled big and reassured her.

“No! Absolutely not! We were laughing at how you’re able to eat that strawberry so elegantly, when we were wiping chocolate off each other’s mouths with marshmallows just a little bit ago. You made it look so easy!”

Relieved, Sabrina smiled back, flattered, and asked where the two had met.

“We’re SheFi sisters!”

Turns out, Sabrina had also signed up for SheFi — but had fallen off a bit after life events got in the way. Her two new SheFi sisters were incredibly supportive.

“You got this! We all have your back. You can get back on the horse!”

What started out as insecurity turned out to be unwavering support from newfound friends.

Another SheFi member Mikeala shared that while attending a typically male-attended ETHCC side event, she saw a woman holding a SheFi bag, recognizing an image of welcome and kindness. She instantly walked over.

Sarang was nervous about attending an ETHCC afterparty.

Her fears disappeared when she met a group of women from SheFi, who helped her prepare for the experience.

In true girlhood form, they got ready together — choosing outfits — before going out.

There are countless examples of the SheFi community being supportive, kind and welcoming.

Unequivocally confirming for me — building community was the right decision.

And I know when you join SheFi, you feel you’ve made the right decision too.
