This week’s newsletter is written by Will Warren, co-founder of Matcha.xyz.

I didn’t set out to work in crypto. A decade ago, I was a PhD student working at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Then, I came across Ethereum, and one idea resonated so strongly that it made me rethink my whole career: create a tokenized world where all value can flow freely.

Bitcoin already had my attention, but Ethereum felt different, more expansive. Smart contracts opened a new design space where programmable money would become a reality. I realized this was it:

This is the most powerful invention since the internet. 

Soon I met Linda, now my wife, and I saw her thrive as an early employee at Coinbase, just as crypto began to go mainstream. I made my decision. I left school, moved in with Linda, and started experimenting onchain.  

From a stable path in academia, I shifted to building something completely new in uncharted territory. I’d not considered myself an entrepreneur, but I knew I had to try. Then I met Amir, and things began to fall into place.

Amir and I co-founded 0x through a token sale. We shared a goal of making decentralized exchange infrastructure open, reliable and efficient. We helped move Ethereum forward through creating public goods, like WETH and NFT standards. To deliver on the promise of an open financial system, we knew we had to commit to building the foundations.

As 0x continued to grow, powering swaps from wallets like Metamask and Phantom to major exchanges like Robinhood and Coinbase, the team began to set sights on the next milestone:

“Let’s build a consumer product!”

We already had the vision and a solid foundation, so we began to design an app that would sit on top, connecting people with the layer of tokenized value we had created. It needed to be fast and professional. Intuitive. Trustworthy. An app to match people with tokens. That idea stuck. 

Matcha.

That was it. Welcoming, approachable, fun. Everything you love about crypto, or everything they told you crypto could be: cheap, fast, permissionless. Any token instantly exchanged for another, across networks, using the optimal route: Matcha. 

Crypto has changed rapidly, but Matcha and 0x have succeeded because our principles endured: a focus on long-term impact, consistently shipping, and doing the right thing when it counts. That doesn’t mean it’s been easy, but it has been worth it. And now, the world is becoming more tokenized every day.

You’re starting a similar journey with SheFi. You might not know exactly where it will lead, but that’s okay, I didn’t either.

In my case, it meant leaving my job, co-founding a protocol, launching a consumer product, and marrying the person who first helped me see what was possible.

• Wall Street clocks another winning week. U.S. markets closed higher in the week ending August 8: S&P 500 rose 0.8%, Dow up 0.5%, and Nasdaq hit a fresh all‑time high, boosted by tech earnings despite tariff concerns.

• Nasdaq reaches record high amid Fed rate‑cut hopes. The Nasdaq surged thanks to strong tech earnings and expectations of Federal Reserve easing, while gold futures also spiked amid new tariffs.

• Bitcoin nears record high as 401(k) access boosts inflows. Bitcoin hit ~$123K and Ethereum reached new highs after an executive order allows crypto in retirement plans; institutional inflows topped $1.57B.

• Tornado Cash developer convicted on money‑transmitting charge. Roman Storm was found guilty of operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business in connection with Tornado Cash; jurors were hung on money‑laundering and sanctions charges.
