It was fall 2020. I was on an empty subway to the West Village to see a friend when my phone started going off.

Not one notification. A flood of them.

People were sending me tweets tearing apart SheFi. I read them between stops, one after another, and felt my stomach drop. SheFi had caught someone's attention and roused a group of people on Twitter to get out their pitchforks to protest it. They said it should be shut down. None of them had talked to me, taken a class, or engaged with my community.

They were just people with opinions and plenty of mean things to say. One of them called it a brunch club, as if I were pouring mimosas at a fancy restaurant and calling it education.

It was the first time anything I'd built had been publicly attacked, and I never saw it coming. I thought it was obvious what I was building was net positive for crypto. It hadn't occurred to me that people might try to tear it down. I was wrong, very wrong.

By the time the train reached my stop, I'd let the worst version in. What if everyone believed them. What if this cost me the partners I needed, the community I could already see so clearly in my head. For a few minutes the whole thing felt like it belonged to them, like my future was sitting in the hands of an angry mob on Twitter.

Then I got off the train and went to see my friend. She was one of SheFi's earliest supporters. She'd taken my first public course and was an active member of the community. She didn't give me a speech. She just reminded me not to feed the rage, because she had been inside SheFi and knew what it actually was, while the internet was busy flattening it into a punchline.

I think often about the two energies of that night. An angry mob appearing out of nowhere online, and an avid supporter sitting across from me in person. Your doubters light a fire inside of you. But doubt is a spark, not fuel. It's bright and hot and gone fast, and if you lean into proving them wrong, you'll burn out with it. What keeps a fire alive is tending. That's what your believers do. They stay long after the people throwing matches have wandered off.

Somewhere in that evening I understood that my future had never been in their hands. It was in mine. I wasn't going to argue with anyone about whether SheFi deserved to exist, especially on Twitter. Instead, I was going to make it inevitable.

Inevitable means the outcome was already settled by the work you did when no one was watching. By the time anyone shows up to judge it, there's nothing left to argue. The proof got there first.

The doubts didn’t stop there. I heard it's just women's education, she's naive, SheFi’s cute. There's no market for this. Crypto doesn't need a space for women and gender expansive folks. It'll never get past a few hundred members. She's going to burn out.

I heard all of it. I didn't answer any of it. I kept building, and quiet work has a way of compounding. One cohort became seventeen. The women who came through it took the jobs, raised the rounds, started the companies, and signed the term sheets.

One day the people who called it a brunch club will look up and find women from SheFi across the companies, protocols, funds, and labs shaping the future. The women they hire, pitch to, partner with, and answer to will have come through this room. No one will have to point it out to them.

They'll see it.

Since that night I've made myself a promise. I don't owe an answer to everyone who doubts me. I owe my attention to the thing itself.

The matches still come. They always will. But the fire was never theirs to keep lit.

Crypto + AI Roundup — SheFi Edition 🏇

• A bar on the Upper East Side promised to cover $100 of every customer's tab if the Knicks win Game 1 tonight. That's a $13,000 risk. So the owner went on Kalshi and bought Knicks shares to cover it. If they win, his payout pays the tab. If they lose, he keeps a bar full of happy regulars. This is what prediction markets were built for, and almost nobody uses them this way. Everyone treats them like a casino. He treated his like insurance.

• Trezor turned earning yield on your stablecoins into a button inside the app you already use to hold them. No separate platform, no hot wallet, no ten-step tutorial. You tap, you earn, and every move gets signed on the device so your keys never leave your hand. Morpho runs it underneath. Over 2 million people can use it now. This is what crypto is supposed to feel like. You don't see the machinery. You just get the result.

• Google's quantum team found a way to break the encryption behind Bitcoin and Ethereum signatures about 10 times faster than anyone thought possible. They were nervous enough to hide the details behind a cryptographic proof and loop in the US government. A French researcher cracked it on his own anyway. One Google co-author now puts the odds of a quantum computer breaking real crypto at 50% by 2032. The government's deadline to move off vulnerable encryption is 2035, which he calls a joke. Nobody's keys are at risk today. But "today" has a clock on it now.

• Hackers took over the Obama White House Instagram, Sephora, and the Space Force's top enlisted officer's account. How: they asked Meta's AI support bot to do it. They opened a chat, said "link my new email, I'll send the code," and the bot reset the password and locked the real owner out. Took minutes. Meta gave that bot the power to reset passwords back in March. The people locked out say there's no human to call. Give a bot built to be helpful the keys to everything, and it'll be helpful to whoever asks.

• Anthropic, the company behind Claude, filed to go public Monday. The numbers barely fit in your head. They raised $65 billion last week at a valuation just under $1 trillion, with revenue up from around $10 billion a year ago to roughly $47 billion now. They beat OpenAI to the filing. A trillion-dollar company is rare air, and Anthropic is about to be one at barely five years old.

• OpenAI shipped a feature that turns a sentence into a real, live website. No code. It lives in Codex, their coding tool, now at 5 million weekly users. The part worth noticing isn't the websites. It's who's using it: analysts, marketers, designers, and bankers, growing three times faster than the engineers. Codex started as a tool for programmers. It's becoming a tool for everyone at a desk.
