I Do.

The beauty of partnership. SheFi Summit Singapore Speakers. Events.

On Saturday August 17th 2024, I said “I Do” to Jon Wu.

Surrounded by the people we love, Jon and I celebrated our union in beautiful upstate New York.

Realizing the true beauty of partnership was a theme in my vows for Jon.

Here’s what I said to him at the altar:

Before I met you, Jon, I used to believe that I had to go it alone.

Fiercely independent and career-driven, I switched jobs alone, I moved to New York alone, and I started SheFi alone.

I never wanted to be dependent on anyone, especially financially. There’s a reason it’s not called WeFi.

Yet, you have taught me the beauty of partnership. I wouldn’t be where I am today without having a true partner who mentors, guides and cheers me on.

You cherished my ambition and had more belief in the success of SheFi than I did when we first met in 2021.

You also came into SheFi’s life at the perfect time. I was at an inflection point, where the cohorts were growing but the monetization was not. I was stressed, struggling with how to get it to a sustainable level – doing it all on my own without help.

You spent countless hours with me making decks, helping me think through business cases, and being patient with me as I cried over the idea of sending it out to sponsors and getting rejected by them.

Every step of the way you have taught me to think bigger and take more risks. All of which I know I can do because even if it doesn’t work out, you will be by my side ready to try again.

Truly the trajectory of SheFi has been “up only” with your support behind the scenes and on stage as the first gentlemen of SheFi.

Yes, I am independent, ambitious, and self-reliant.

And I can have all those qualities while also being honest about the support I need from my husband - a man who also is my best business, spiritual, and life mentor.

When you begin to trust in real partnerships, your world expands. You discover how to level up in ways that weren’t possible before. It’s hard to make it very far without a team.

After starting SheFi, I had little trust in anyone but myself. Having been burned in the start-up sector before, I wanted to control the destiny of this project.

Yet, as I mentioned in my vows, I couldn’t do it all alone. With Jon’s support, I’ve been able to make SheFi sustainable, growing our team and consequently, our impact.

On my wedding weekend, I couldn’t be working. I wanted to spend completely uninterrupted quality time with my new husband, family, and friends who had traveled to be with us.

So I trusted the new partnerships I’ve made within SheFi to keep everything up and running. I let my amazing operations and social teams take the lead, signing out from slack for a week.

Upon returning back from my honeymoon, I saw all operations went smoothly. SheFi didn’t collapse upon my absence.

Previously, if I took vacations, work wouldn’t get done.

But now, I’m not going it alone.

And neither are you.

SheFi is a community here to support you on your journey. When we open up to one another and to new opportunities, we enter into more and more partnerships that will change our lives for the better.

While you should always trust yourself, remember to also trust the smart, caring, and compassionate women around you too.

When you say “I Do” to SheFi, many partnership opportunities open up to you.
