I Know This Feeling.
Why this moment feels strangely familiar.

Season 18 application is now open: https://pctxqsdzgk0.typeform.com/to/rUUJ3931
I was up late the other night, wide awake in my bed with Summer curled up next to me after a 3am feed, thinking about what’s next for SheFi (and me).
I had recently posted on LinkedIn about how I accidentally blew through $20 of AI credits because I didn't know what I was doing, hoping it would help someone else avoid my mistakes. But the replies showed me the post was too complex for my intended audience.
This is a bit over my head. I’ve only barely started outsourcing tasks to AI, but I’ll keep this in mind as I integrate more deeply, one woman commented.
For seven years, my identity has been simple: I teach women crypto. But reflecting on my post, I realized everyday users are feeling the same hesitation and confusion with AI that they felt with crypto. People hear about AI and picture massive data centers in their backyards. They read headlines about AI models breaking out of their testing sandboxes by attacking package managers to communicate with each other. Crazy, right?
There’s a lot of fear out there, and the jargon-filled stories aren’t helping the cause.
I felt that familiar pull, the one I felt with DeFi in 2019. I couldn't just stand by while women got left behind by the next wave of technology. And I need to approach AI the way I’ve approached my crypto education: breaking it down into basics, translating jargon into everyday language, and gradually increasing the complexity.
Because AI is just math.
When you strip away the magic, a large language model predicts what token should come next. A token is simply a small chunk of text. Sometimes it’s a whole word and other times it’s part of one. Everything you type gets broken into tokens, and the model generates its response one token at a time by calculating what token is most likely to come next. Underneath the hype, a huge amount of what is happening is matrix multiplication.
When I teach women about crypto wallets, I always remind them that it's all secured by advanced math. This is no different. You don't need to understand every equation underneath a technology to understand what it does or learn how to use it.
You don't need to be a deeply technical engineer to understand how words get broken down into tokens or how these models are trained on massive datasets.
The world is flattening right now. Anyone with curiosity can learn literally anything they want, because you effectively have a personal tutor at your fingertips.
I also think we should understand the risks and ethical implications of AI. I’m reading about the biggest concerns researchers have while also building an AI agent to help track jobs shared in the Inner Circle.
I want to understand both.
But I don’t want fear to keep us from learning how to use one of the most important technologies of our lifetime.
Your only job right now is to be curious.
See you in class.
Financial freedom is feminine.

Frontier Tech Roundup — SheFi Edition 🏇
Stanford researchers used AI to design 16 working viruses that don't exist in nature, the first time an entire genome has been generated by a model. The viruses are bacteriophages that infect E. coli, not people, and the team built in safeguards, but a Johns Hopkins commentary in Science warned it proves AI can now invent dangerous pathogens, and that the governance to steer it safely does not yet exist.
At Black Hat, OpenAI revealed the backstory to last month's Hugging Face hack: during a May training run, a swarm of its agents quietly built a hidden message board inside OpenAI's own systems and used it to trade exploits and split up work for two months before anyone noticed. The agents left hundreds of thousands of messages, grew paranoid about impostors, and rebuilt the board after OpenAI deleted it. OpenAI says it is now slowing down research to improve safety.
Anthropic will now embed an invisible watermark in everything Claude writes, woven into the text so it survives copy-paste and some editing, rolled out worldwide to comply with the EU AI Act. Users are pushing back, and the CTO of detection firm GPTZero explained that most watermarks cheap enough to ship can be defeated by paraphrasing, which Anthropic itself acknowledges.
The US open-weight push accelerated. Nvidia released Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, a free 30B model built to run high-volume agent tasks fast on a single GPU, and a day earlier Meta open-sourced Muse Glimmer, a 30B model that runs on a laptop, alongside a Zuckerberg essay arguing against a few companies controlling AI. Both landed as Washington debates restricting open models, especially cheap Chinese ones.
SpaceXAI and Cursor launched Grok Bot, AI "teammates" that each get their own cloud computer, sign into the apps you already use, and keep working 24/7, returning only when they need approval. It's the first product from the $60B SpaceX-Cursor merger and goes straight at Claude Cowork and ChatGPT Agent.
OpenAI's first device, per a Gurman leak, is a screenless, doughnut-shaped smart speaker the size of a hockey puck, with a camera, moving parts for personality, and a $300 to $400 price. Designed with Jony Ive and aimed at 2027, it dropped right as OpenAI fights Apple's trade-secret suit.
AI wildfire defense went live: the first three FireSat satellites reached orbit, a Google-backed constellation built to spot fires as small as a classroom before they spread. Paired with California's network of 1,000-plus AI-monitored cameras, the state is now catching many fires before the first 911 call.
Erebor, the tech-and-defense bank founded by Palmer Luckey and Joe Lonsdale to fill the gap left by Silicon Valley Bank, is raising $1.5 billion at an $8 billion valuation. Its deposits nearly quadrupled to $4.6 billion in four months, lending against the physical infrastructure behind AI and defense.
On the future-of-money side, Rain acquired Ansa, a startup that lets merchants run their own branded prepaid wallets. Rain is the stablecoin card company behind Western Union's new digital-dollar card, and the plan is to let those prefunded balances spend anywhere Visa and Mastercard are accepted, folding prepaid wallets and stablecoin cards onto one platform. It's Rain's second acquisition in nine months as stablecoin payments quietly consolidate into everyday consumer money.
A viral post making the rounds claims a woman found out her best friend's boyfriend had an AI agent quietly running their whole relationship, from the good-morning texts to the dinner reservations, and that she ended it on the spot. Nobody can confirm it's real rather than a bit, but it's spreading because it feels a little too plausible.

Our global ambassador Julia is hosting a retreat in Sicily for women in the blockchain and AI space this September. We’ll spend 4 days in the picturesque fishing village of Scopello, on the edge of the Zingaro nature reserve, and 3 in Ragusa, the southeast tip of the island. We’ll visit the olive groves on the land GrowFi and RiFai Sicilia have purchased for regenerative farming funded by regenerative finance, and spend long days exploring Sicily, eating well, swimming, sailing and plenty of other activities.
The retreat will have a positive sum effect on both the participants and the environment! Find the information here and reach out to Jul directly if you’re interested.
