I've made some of the best decisions of my life without being able to explain them.

Turning down a raise at IBM because staying was just playing it safe. Saying yes to SheFi when I had no proof it would work. Trying for a baby when the timing wasn't perfect. And then — in labor, when they told me not to push, pushing anyway. They saw her head thirty seconds later.

I couldn't have handed you a spreadsheet. I couldn't have cited sources. I just knew. And every time I've overridden that knowing with logic — talked myself out of it with pros and cons and reasonable arguments — I have regretted it.

The worst was never one big moment. It was the slow override — staying at a company because I was promised a payout, not because I loved the work. Saying yes when my body said no. Choosing control over trust a hundred times until I couldn't remember what my own capacity felt like.

For years I called this my gut. My intuition. A divine download. It felt almost too mysterious to trust in public.

What I understand now is that the mystery is the point. You can't explain it because it's running on more data than your conscious mind will ever touch.

Your intuition is the most powerfully trained algorithm you have.

It's been running since before you could speak. It has processed every relationship that broke your heart, every room that felt wrong the moment you walked in, every person who smiled at you while something in your body tightened. Every loss you survived. Every win you didn't expect. Every night you stayed up afraid, and every morning you got up anyway.

Your logical brain — the one that makes to-do lists and calculates risk — is a relatively recent development. It's been around for maybe 50,000 years. Impressive. But your gut? Your instinct? Your deep knowing?

Millions of years.

There's more data in there than you will ever be able to consciously access. And that's exactly the point. It doesn't need to be accessed. It needs to be trusted.

Here's what I see in our community all the time. A woman stands at a threshold — a job she needs to leave, an investment she keeps researching but hasn't made, a class she's been looking at for months. And she says: I'm not ready. I need more information. I don't know enough yet.

She's waiting for the logic brain to approve what the deep brain already knows.

Something shifted in me when I understood this: readiness isn't a thought. It's not a conclusion you reach after gathering enough data. It's a permission you give yourself to act on what you already sense is true.

I don't think less of the version of me that kept waiting for certainty. I just wish I'd known sooner that certainty was never coming.

You've been here long enough. You've seen enough. You've felt enough.

The algorithm has been running the whole time.
