Lessons from my Japanese Honeymoon.
Tokyo Honeymoon, SheFi Summit Bangkok Sponsors, SheFi Global Events
In Bar 45, Yoshi was explaining acid jazz to me after I Shazam’d “Worlds Keep Spinning” by the Brand New Heavies – a song I had never heard before.
It was 6 pm in Tokyo. Before our dinner, Jon and I wanted our hi-fi fix. So we popped into a nearly empty bar and were given a very warm welcome by its older, wiry-haired owner, Yoshi.
We sat down, expecting a typical bar experience. But instead of just asking what we wanted to drink, Yoshi gave us a custom Japanese whiskey-tasting. At the end of his detailed explanations, the three of us cheers’d “Kanpai.” And in that moment, Jon and I realized we had made a new friend.
Not only was Yoshi passionate about whiskey, but he had an obsession for music like me. I was enchanted by the way he so fervently explained the lore of each acid jazz song that played. He had traveled the world for music, telling us how he went to London in the 1980s to dance to early UK garage house. And of course, he dedicated his bar to music - the 45 in the name a reference to 45 rpm vinyl records.
Yoshi didn’t just share with us his passions, though. He shared his hospitality. He shared pieces of himself, and we did the same.
When our hour-long visit came to a close, we had chatted about our families, learned about his upcoming trip to Taiwan, and tried a pickled vegetable he grew from his very own garden.
This place was clearly an extension of Yoshi. He was delighted that we felt so at home. We bonded so much in one hour that we shared Instagram profiles before leaving the bar.
This hospitality would make you assume he’s been doing this his whole life.
But no - Yoshi actually quit his old job to start Bar 45 with his best friends ten years ago.
It was something he always wanted to do, and he took the leap. He did it.
At Bar 45, you’re more than just a customer. Yoshi created for us an experience that we’ll never forget, and I’m committed to doing the same with SheFi.
It’s why we start our Web3 classes with affirmations. It’s why SheFi Summit Brussels had a gua sha workshop. It’s why we’re obsessed with community, fostering global connections for mutual support.
In this life, we should strive to give people experiences that leave a lasting impact.
Yoshi did that for us. And I hope SheFi can do that for you.
