I walked into BaseCamp 2025, my first crypto conference in over a year.

My first crypto conference as a mom.

With Summer Jeanne strapped to my chest, we took our seat to listen to Jesse Pollak’s opening keynote. Five hundred likeminded people surrounded us—I had already run into 3 women from SheFi at the check-in line, and 15 more at the prior talk for Base Buildhers.

But as Jesse started speaking, so did Summer (clearly wanting to be a part of the creator economy conversation.)

I excused the two of us, but as I left the auditorium, I smiled. I had a packed day ahead of me: seeing old friends, building relationships with potential partners, and meeting SheFi members IRL.

And already I had begun observing people absolutely light up at this event. They talked energetically to each other about their projects and passion for Base, attended engaging panels, participated in fun activities like pickleball, and would join together for delicious lunches against the beautiful backdrop of Stowe, Vermont.

As I write this and reflect, I can’t help but think:

This is what events are all about.

Yes, conferences are for talks and product launches. But they’re so much more than that. 

Attending BaseCamp reminds me that events are really always about building community, solidifying affinity between existing community members, and reminding ourselves that crypto is for everyone.

It’s easy to get distracted on the timeline by the scammers, casinos, and bad actors and begin to lose hope. Is this really what crypto is?

But the second you attend an event like this, you remember exactly why you joined the space.

The wonderful people here—we make up the majority. We’re not here to make a quick buck. We’re here to build products and relationships that last. 

Some argue that events “don't get good ROI.” That sometimes is the case, but only when they're not done with intention.

When events like BaseCamp or SheFi Summit are done correctly, with the intention of bringing community together, empowering them with information, and really making sure they have time and space to connect, share ideas, and build together—this gives you the best ROI of all. 

You’re making the movement stronger.

As we prepare for SheFi Summit Singapore and SheFi Summit Buenos Aires, I remember that our events deepen connections and bring the passion for the shared mission to life.

These events are community-first, and create the true, lived experience of SheFi.

Everyone here today is part of Base, reflecting on what that means, why they chose this chain, and embracing all of their shared values. That’s precisely how every SheFi member feels at one of our Summits.

You are not in this alone. You’re not in a degen crypto Twitter void.

You’re here, creating the future of finance, with amazing people.

And we’re doing that together.

⭐ Marissa Trew, Ecosystem Product Marketing at Aptos Labs, supports projects & founders building on Aptos. Prior she was Director of Engagement at Blokhaus, a web3 marketing agency.

She built her name in the emerging tech space as a professional host, moderator and emcee.

⭐ Alexandra Kugusheva is the Growth Lead at Morpho Labs. With a computer science background, she entered the crypto space early in 2017.

She's worked across various verticals and projects, including ZK and privacy, funds, and consumer-facing applications.

⭐ Claire Kart has an A.B. in Art History, Dartmouth; MBA, University of Texas at Austin; and 15+ years of marketing executive experience, commercializing new products and technologies.
