Perfection Was My Excuse.

The next step required courage, not another revision.

I was sitting at my desk the other day, staring at the SheFi website and compiling a mental list of all the copy that needed updating.

I’m in the middle of building a new institutional sales motion. We’ve partnered with Fidelity’s Center for Applied Technology for the last three years running. And it’s time to bring SheFi to more institutions.

I was convinced we couldn’t start selling this new offering because the brand messaging wasn't perfect yet. I thought I needed the exact right words everywhere across all of our platforms, so that when an institutional client looked at our website, it perfectly matched the pitch.

But a few hours into detailed copy review, I realized the website is not holding me back from launching this new product. It’s picking up the phone and having conversations.

After four years of selling, I’ve gotten quite good at it. I pitch all the time, and I know how to close. But when it comes to building out a brand new product line, I get caught up in the details. In my head, everything has to look flawless before I can have a conversation with a potential partner.

I was using website revisions as an excuse to not do sales. Polishing copy feels entirely in my control. Having a messy conversation about a brand new offering is unpredictable.

I convinced myself that I need to be 100% ready before I took the leap, and I know I’m not alone in this thinking. We think we need the perfect deck, the flawless portfolio, and the exact right words before we apply for the job, pitch the client, or launch the product.

Stop waiting for perfection. Start doing in order to start learning.

Financial freedom is feminine,

Maggie
