You Don’t Have To Do It Alone.
Building anything—marriage, business, community—starts with this lesson.
Jon wants to know the right way to cut an onion.
I couldn't care less as long as the dish gets made.
I come up with ten new content ideas before breakfast.
Jon asks which one actually moves the needle.
I see possibility everywhere. Jon sees the path through.
Our differences make us a powerful team. But difference without intention can quickly produce friction, something we learned early on in our relationship.
Learning how to turn our opposing instincts into complementay strengths has been an ongoing process, one that hasn’t always been easy, but has always been incredibly fruitful.
One framework we use is the Enneagram, a system for defining personality traits and understanding drives, motivations, tendencies, and how different personality types work with others.
It's commonly used in businesses to promote better team dynamics. We use it to promote a better team dynamic in our marriage.
I'm an Enneagram 7, The Enthusiast, and Jon is an 8, The Challenger. As an Enthusiast, I’m committed to curiosity, trying new things, and keeping life full of possibility. As a Challenger, Jon is committed to focus, mastery, and making sure no one gets trapped by systems or limiting beliefs.
According to the Enneagram, our types overlap in a particular way creating “fun hunger”, which is essentially our endless appetite for chasing new horizons, whether that's venturing toward unknown territories across the globe, or pushing each other toward the unknown of what we might build or become.
For some people, Jon can be very direct and kind of intense. But when we’re working together, nothing Jon does ever offends me because I know Jon’s core motivation is to empower. And, similarly, Jon doesn’t get too frustrated with my one million ideas because he knows that the entire purpose of my being is to be generative, and to create a world of endless possibilities.
Finding someone who I can lean to support me with the tasks I find difficult has been a blessing.
It's a real mindset shift to learn how to lean on others, one I'm still working on. Of course I can do things myself, but maybe I don't always have to. And when I don't, I create space for what matters most to me while giving someone else a chance to discover what they shine at.
This is what I've learned from partnership that applies to everything: we're not meant to do it alone.

There’s a saying that goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to far, go together.”
Being independent and self-sufficient are important and valuable qualities, but drawing on the strengths of those around will take you beyond where you thought you could go.
That’s what happens in real partnerships and even more so in real communities. We each bring something different. And when we come together, something emerges that none of us could have created alone. Something more beautiful than we could've ever imagined.
In less than three weeks, we'll see what that is.
There's something that emerges when we gather in person that can't exist when we're apart: the conversations in the hallway, the connections that surprise you, the ideas that only arise when the right people are in the same room, the opportunity that you and only you can fulfill in that very moment.
Maybe you're the person who needs to know the right way to cut an onion. Maybe you couldn't care less. Maybe you'll find each other and create something incredible together, one of you perfecting the onions, the other frying on all four burners at once.
You can’t know what's going to come out of it.
Community is the greatest form of abundance.
Come and discover what only you can give.
